“Autumn Leaves in Lithia Park,” taken by Ted Demetriades
Ashland’s beautiful Lithia Park is one of my favorite places to photograph fall colors. I captured this scene in the park’s Japanese Garden in October 2013 using a Sony A57 camera with a Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle lens that enabled me to include the brilliant leaves at my feet as they flowed into the pond and beyond. I want the viewer to feel that they are standing in this place, experiencing this moment. I was bitten by the photography bug when I received my first camera back in the early 1970s, and I’ve had the passion ever since. Living in Grants Pass, I find the naturescapes of Southern Oregon to be a constant inspiration for me as I hike the trails or travel the back roads capturing the experience with my camera.
I worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 30 years, retiring in 2006 and moving with my wife from Idaho to Grants Pass. Working in the outdoors gave me a keen appreciation for the natural world.
