Program Description:

The Director is the executive head of Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and is responsible to the State Parks and Recreation Commission for administration of the Department. These duties include administration of the department, providing leadership and direction in the formation and execution of policy, and financial oversight of the agency budget.

The Director by statute has rule making authority to administer Land and Conservation Fund and Recreation Vehicle Grants to local jurisdictions, and rule making authority to approve master plans for all state parks. The Director's office keeps the minutes for the State Parks and Recreation Commission, a governor-appointed seven-member commission who appoints and oversees the Director.

The Director's role as agency head is documented by the Director's Correspondence. The Director's activities in the formation and administration of policy, administration of grants, and financial oversight is carried out by units under his direction in the Department. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes document the oversight and policy-making of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission over the Department.

008 Director's Correspondence, 1980-ongoing - Retain permanently, transfer to State Archives after 10 years. Some information may be exempt from public disclosure as authorized by ORS 192.501(6), 192.501(11) for the life of the records.

009 Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes, 1984-ongoing - Retain minutes permanently, transfer to State Archives after 25 years. Retain audio tapes 7 years, destroy.
