Real Estate Agency > Web site
The Real Estate Agency is responsible for licensing, registering and regulating real estate brokers, principal real estate brokers, property managers, escrow agents, real estate marketing organizations and membership campgrounds. It also regulates aspects of condominium filings, timeshare filings and manufactured dwelling subdivisions.
In 1919, the Oregon Legislature passed the first effective real estate license law in the United States. The Insurance Department issued the first real estate licenses. Over the years, different state offices have been responsible for real estate licensing. The current Real Estate Agency was created in 1987.
The agency is managed by a real estate commissioner appointed by the governor. The commissioner is advised by the nine-person Real Estate Board. About 28 agency employees serve over 20,000 licensees and registrants.
