Responsibilities include administering programs that promote
independence and protection for aging people and people with disabilities of all ages to achieve well-being through opportunities for community living, employment, family support, and services that promote independence, choice and dignity.
Functions include the Older Americans Act, direct financial support, in-home services, community-based care facilities and nursing facilities. Eligibility determination for federal Social Security disability benefits and help arranging and paying for in-home services are provided through programs such as Oregon Project Independence or support services. Many of the services are provided to clients through local Area Agency on Aging or branch offices throughout the state.
