Duties and Responsibilities: The Veterans’
Services Division provides a variety of services to Oregon’s veterans, their dependents and survivors through its Veterans’ Benefits Counseling and Claims, Veterans’ Home Loans, Conservatorship and Oregon Educational Aid programs. Through the Counseling and Claims program, veterans’ service officers (VSO) provide assistance to veterans, their dependents and survivors with obtaining
federal, state and local veterans benefits. VSOs are located in Salem and Portland and offer outreach to nursing homes, correctional facilities, other state institutions and private residences. The Veterans’ Loan program provides home acquisition and home improvement loans to veterans at favorable interest rates. Through the Conservatorship Program, the director provides conservatorship service, including total estate management to certain veterans and their survivors who are legally determined to be “protected persons” by various Oregon probate courts. The Oregon Educational Aid Program
provides a financial benefit to help offset the
educational expenses of honorably discharged Oregon veterans.

Duties and Responsibilities: Opening its doors in 1997, the Oregon Veterans’ Home is a state-of-the-art, 151-bed long-term health care facility
that provides professional Alzheimer and other
dementia care, nursing, rehabilitative, recreational, social and other support services for Oregon
veterans, for veterans’ spouses, widows and
widowers, and for parents whose children have died while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The home is the first and only state-mandated nursing home to provide comprehensive nursing care specifically for Oregon’s veterans. The Oregon Veterans’ Home is a tax-exempt organization and accepts donations to help meet operating expenses.
