The Public Health Division (PHD) improves lifelong health for all Oregonians by promoting health and preventing the leading causes of death, disease and injury in the state. The division’s primary responsibilities are to assess the public’s health through data collection and to then use that information to develop policies and programs that support improved health outcomes for all Oregonians. The division oversees health promotion and prevention activities, health care facilities and licensing, environmental health regulation, public health emergency preparedness, epidemiological outbreak investigations and the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory.
PHD works with many partners, including local health departments, community organizations, health care providers and coordinated care organizations. The Public Health Advisory Board and other advisory committees provide overall guidance to the division. The division comprises about 120 programs with about 750 employees and is headquartered in Portland.
