Present Duties
The Oregon Military Department’s purpose is to administer, house, equip and train the Oregon National Guard, a ready force to support the governor during unrest or natural disaster and as a reserve force to the total forces of the United States. The department administers 39 Readiness Centers/Armories, seven Maintenance centers, four training sites, two Army Aviation Support Facilities and two Air Bases. Each community with sufficient population to support guard activities has a National Guard unit assigned to it.
The National Guard is found in both the United States and Oregon Constitutions. Its tradition and history is grounded in its mission statement: “A ready force equipped and trained to respond to any contingency. When we are needed, we are there.”
